What do the mmHg numbers mean?

mmHg (millimeters of mercury) measures how much pressure the sock applies to your leg. Higher number = stronger compression. Choose based on your need, not personal preference — the wrong level can be ineffective or uncomfortable.

MILD 8-15 mmHg Travel, tired legs, everyday wear
MODERATE 15-20 mmHg Mild swelling, varicose veins, athletes
FIRM 20-30 mmHg DVT prevention, post-surgery, edema
EXTRA FIRM 30-40 mmHg Prescribed only — doctor supervision required
What is graduated compression and why does it matter?

Graduated compression means the pressure is highest at the ankle and gradually decreases up the leg. This is the clinically recommended design — it mimics the natural pumping action of your veins and actively pushes blood upward toward the heart.

Non-graduated (uniform) socks provide less therapeutic benefit. When shopping, look for "graduated compression" on the label to make sure you're getting effective support.

How to wear
Which length should I choose?
KNEE-HIGH
  • Most popular choice
  • Covers the calf muscle
  • Great for daily support & travel
THIGH-HIGH
  • Extended upper leg coverage
  • For circulation above the knee
  • Often prescribed post-surgery
PANTYHOSE / LEGGINGS
  • Full leg + waist support
  • Ideal for pregnancy
  • All-day wear coverage
FOOTLESS
  • Better breathability
  • Allows toe inspection
  • Wear with open-toe shoes
How do I measure myself correctly?

Measure in the morning, before swelling sets in — this ensures the most accurate fit. You'll need ankle circumference, calf circumference, and leg length. For thigh-highs, also measure thigh circumference.

Between sizes? Choose the larger size for your first pair — it's more forgiving and easier to put on. If a sock feels impossible to pull on, the issue is usually compression level, not size.

Who benefits most from compression socks?

If you spend long hours on your feet or sitting without moving, compression socks actively help prevent blood pooling and leg fatigue throughout the day.

Nurses & healthcare workersTeachers & retail staffFrequent flyersPregnant womenRunners & athletesPost-surgery recoveryVaricose veinsDVT preventionEdema & lymphedemaLong-haul drivers
How do I care for compression socks?

Hand wash or gentle machine cycle in cold water. Air dry flat — tumble drying breaks down the elastic fibers and reduces compression over time. Avoid petroleum-based creams or lotions on your legs before putting them on, as these degrade the fabric.

Replace every 3–6 months with daily wear. Once the elastic starts to feel loose, the compression level is no longer effective.

Take the Quiz

Customers praised these open-toe compression socks for comfort, quality, and effective compression. Many noted they "stay up without binding" and are "easy to put on." The open-toe design allows wearing with sandals and keeps feet cool. However, sizing issues were common—some found them too loose or they slid down, while others needed shorter length. Several recommended sizing down for better compression.

Good support for compression and love the open toes. Next time will buy a smaller size, these didn't stay up over my calves, would slide down a little.

These compression socks are so

These compression socks are so comfortable and easy to put on. Also I live in Florida and they aren’t hot. Highly recommend.

I had surgery recently and

I had surgery recently and used these for the first couple of weeks of recovery as advised by my doctor. I typically hate compression and feel like because I am short and have big calves and ankles compression hose never really fit me well. While painfully squeezing me they are typically too long to fit well. If they go too far into your knee crease, it is uncomfortable and it can make them roll down. These fit me well and I didn't have those problems.

These compression socks aren’t going

These compression socks aren’t going to win you any beauty contests, but I do like that they are toeless—I feel a tad more comfortable wearing them for that reason. It’s also appreciated that there is a distinct place for your heal to go, it sounds obvious enough, but not always.

They do what they are supposed to do, and they do it well. I don’t feel the need to pull them up all day or readjust them in any way. They were also just snug enough that I don’t feel like my blood circulation is being cut off, and there have been plenty of times throughout the day that I’ve forgotten I’m wearing them.

These Absolute Support medical grade

These Absolute Support medical grade compression socks are a good choice. Made well and the top band doesn't strangle the top of my calf, and the bottom band at the open toes does not roll up. I just wish they were another 1 or 2 inches longer.

I find these are comfortable,

I find these are comfortable, and they fit according to the provided size chart. They give light compression, as expected from a 15-20mm compression rating. I like the open toe style, as I hate my toes covered in the summer, and these also allow me to wear flip-flops/sandals without issue.

I think these work well.

I think these work well. They are comfortable and wash with no issues (I do air dry them). I like the open toe concept because I feel like my feet still have some gripping power and when in shoes, my feet don't slide all around the place. I think these are just as good as any other compression stockings and I'd recommend them.

These are well made compression

These are well made compression socks that are of a good weight and thickness so they are comfortable to wear (well, as comfortable as compression socks can be, I guess). According to the size chart, I should be a size XL, but I decided to order size 3XL because I like to wear these socks over my pjs or leggings more as leg-warmers than for compression. These provide a moderate level of compression when purchased in my regular size or one size up. In the size I ended up with, I do still get mild compression, which is really nice for the end of a long, tiring day spent on my feet. These socks do seem fairly snug so I'm glad I went up two sizes instead of just one. I like that these have the open toe style so I don't have to worry about the foot portion being too long, as it so often is when I size up. The length of the socks is good, coming up just to my knee and the band is non-binding and doesn't cut in at all. The fabric has good elasticity and the socks stay in place without losing shape or slipping down. The socks wash well, too (I machine wash in cold water and a gentle cycle but I always follow this by line drying). I chose the black. These knee-high socks seem well made and the price is reasonable so I will probably pick up the beige ones as well.

My foot and ankle 13

My foot and ankle 13 weeks after a devastating fall. After a cast, then a boot, I was able to wear a show-with a compression stocking.

I chose these and I am glad I did. They are easy to get on and off. They provide the compression I still need.

Highly recommend, especially if you have bigger thighs. Trust me, they have a size to fit you.

I gave them 4 stars

I gave them 4 stars because they are very comfortable and my legs didn't hurt wearing them. They did a great job keeping my legs from swelling. I was worried the seam where the toes are cut out would rub across my feet, especially the undersides when I was walking, but I didn't feel anything.

Downsides: I have short legs, so these need to be about 3" shorter. Also I have large calves and small ankles (when they're not swollen). I got them to fit my calves, but they were too loose around my ankles, so while my legs didn't swell, my ankles still did.

* Overall Impression: -They are

* Overall Impression:
-They are a good value for a very soft material, high quality, pair of strong compression stockings with open toes that are comfortable to wear, if you get the right size.

* Pros-what I liked and what worked well:
-Good value for the style, quality and quantity.

-1 pair (2 total) included.

-Very good quality on the material and the construction, well made.

-Open toe design, allows your toes to be open. (Note that the heel area is covered though.)

-Fit as expected in the length, from mid foot arch to below (not on or above) the knee. Calf length, not knee length.

-Pull on, pull off sock style with no zippers or closure.

-Very soft material that's good quality and soft on the skin. It looks and feels like a smooth (no ribs, as ribbed stockings can be painful on the skin) compression clothing material. It’s not scratchy, itchy or rough and is smooth.

-Fabric: 80% nylon, 20% spandex.

-Washable (I'd hand wash, air dry them, though they say machine washable.)

-Strong compression.

-Compression rating: 15-20mm HG

-Reinforced heel (covered, not open).

-Moisture wicking fabric.

-Lightweight, slim style not bulky.

-Breathable material.

-Non slip, grip upper calf cuff.

-Instructions included.

-No unpleasant scent or odor to them.

* Cons-what I didn’t like and what didn’t work well:
-You may want to consider ordering a larger size if you are close to the end range of a size. I found them to be a bit tight on the upper band (will explain below).

* Tips & Thoughts:
-The compression on the calf at the top band, was a bit tight for comfort. For reference size wise, I'm a 107 lb, 5'1, female size 7 shoe, and my ankle measures 7.5 inches around, my calf measures 12.5 inches (at the widest part). I ordered a small (rated to fit an ankle 7-8.5 inches, calf 11.5-13 inches). I found that while wearable, the calf band on the top was a little tight for my comfort and liking. I would order the medium next time vs small. If you don't like super tight, strong compression if you're close to the end of a range of a size, you may want to order a size up, larger.

-Be sure and measure the largest widest area on your calf and ankle as directed in the listing and listing pictures. Use the measurement for your calf and ankle vs just the size height weight chart for a better fit.

-Note that on my size 7 female sized feet, my toes in the small size stocking were fully and completely uncovered as expected. And on my 5'1 height, the stockings did not go up too high, and were well below the knee.

-Note that the compression is fairly strong on these and they are (as sized in the size chart) going to fit fairly tight if you order as directed in the size chart.

These socks have a great

These socks have a great hold and good stretch. When removing I can definitely tell the difference between when I wear them and when I don't. My legs full much more rested and no swelling at all. Most compression socks have a closed toe but I really like the open toe concept as I don't like to wear socks when sleeping. They are easy to wash and snap right back into shape afterwards. Would definitely recommend for comfort as well as price!

I am a soccer referee,

I am a soccer referee, and might do anywhere from 1 to 4 (sometimes more) matches a day. After such long hours on my feet, running back and forth, my feet are always sore and aching the next day; if not the same day. I've been searching for a solution to help alleviate some of the pain and add more support. These ankle compression sleeves have really helped. The copper-infused fabric not only provides compression but also increases circulation and helps reduce inflammation. They are lightweight and comfortable enough to wear all day long. Most importantly, they really do feel supportive. They've become an essential part of my referee gear, and I can't recommend them enough to anyone seeking relief from foot discomfort.

I should have order smaller

I should have order smaller size. I usually get X-large when ordering compression socks because tend to run small. These do not and I would have had more compression with a large. Hoping will shrink a bit in wash and I am drying in dryer. I like to wear when walking outside, help keep my legs from getting tired. Went on well. Comfortable, did not cut into legs. Stayed pulled up. Did not roll down. Comparable to similar brands and styles.

Compression socks from ABSOLUTE SUPPORT

Compression socks from ABSOLUTE SUPPORT are really effective. These are helpful since they are smooth and strong, do not roll down, fit properly, are not see-through, and can be easily hidden under clothing. As I get older and am constantly on my feet, my legs swell .You can quickly clean in the washer machine, and it is well worth the money. Because my feet swell too, I like that it avoids blood clots and deep vein thrombosis in the legs. They are so comfortable that I forget I'm wearing them.

I got a pair of

I got a pair of this compression socks based on the size charts. As far as weight and height, it indicated that I was a a size medium. The circumference of my calves fell in-between size small and medium. I chose medium and find that it is comfortable but the compression is not as tight. I would have liked to have more compression but I also think that a slightly lighter compression allows me to wear the socks pretty much all day long. The material is 80% polyester and 20% spandex. It feels ok on my skin, ideally I would have like to have a more breathable material (like lycra) added so that it's not so rough. Overall it is a good pair of open toe compression socks that allows me to wear my flip flops around the house.

These knee-high compression socks are

These knee-high compression socks are quite comfortable--although I think I should have ordered one size down, since they're not quite as tight as I tend to want compression socks. They've slipped down to my ankles once or twice after wearing them for hours (beneath loose pants). If you're near the transition between two measurement brackets, it might be a good idea to opt for the lower size. However, I've been hand-washing and air-drying these so I don't know if they might shrink if I sent them through the laundry machines. They're mostly nylon, so I wouldn't expect much shrinkage, but you never know.

I love that these are open toe so I can still wear my sandals and flip-flops. They are a fairly discreet color for me, too, at least in winter, so it doesn't attract much attention that I'm wearing socks with sandals. I like them.
