What do the mmHg numbers mean?

mmHg (millimeters of mercury) measures how much pressure the sock applies to your leg. Higher number = stronger compression. Choose based on your need, not personal preference — the wrong level can be ineffective or uncomfortable.

MILD 8-15 mmHg Travel, tired legs, everyday wear
MODERATE 15-20 mmHg Mild swelling, varicose veins, athletes
FIRM 20-30 mmHg DVT prevention, post-surgery, edema
EXTRA FIRM 30-40 mmHg Prescribed only — doctor supervision required
What is graduated compression and why does it matter?

Graduated compression means the pressure is highest at the ankle and gradually decreases up the leg. This is the clinically recommended design — it mimics the natural pumping action of your veins and actively pushes blood upward toward the heart.

Non-graduated (uniform) socks provide less therapeutic benefit. When shopping, look for "graduated compression" on the label to make sure you're getting effective support.

How to wear
Which length should I choose?
KNEE-HIGH
  • Most popular choice
  • Covers the calf muscle
  • Great for daily support & travel
THIGH-HIGH
  • Extended upper leg coverage
  • For circulation above the knee
  • Often prescribed post-surgery
PANTYHOSE / LEGGINGS
  • Full leg + waist support
  • Ideal for pregnancy
  • All-day wear coverage
FOOTLESS
  • Better breathability
  • Allows toe inspection
  • Wear with open-toe shoes
How do I measure myself correctly?

Measure in the morning, before swelling sets in — this ensures the most accurate fit. You'll need ankle circumference, calf circumference, and leg length. For thigh-highs, also measure thigh circumference.

Between sizes? Choose the larger size for your first pair — it's more forgiving and easier to put on. If a sock feels impossible to pull on, the issue is usually compression level, not size.

Who benefits most from compression socks?

If you spend long hours on your feet or sitting without moving, compression socks actively help prevent blood pooling and leg fatigue throughout the day.

How do I care for compression socks?

Hand wash or gentle machine cycle in cold water. Air dry flat — tumble drying breaks down the elastic fibers and reduces compression over time. Avoid petroleum-based creams or lotions on your legs before putting them on, as these degrade the fabric.

Replace every 3–6 months with daily wear. Once the elastic starts to feel loose, the compression level is no longer effective.

They are a bit to tall for my petite legs and the open toe end is longer than my foot. I was hoping these socks would not tighten into my ankles but they do.

With conditions like lipedema, daily

With conditions like lipedema, daily compression can be helpful in the lower legs in particular, and onto the feet. These are tricky to put on, but with practice and starting with them rolled up, they get easier. They stay put very well, and feel great once on - I forget I'm wearing them. They look like translucent pantyhose, but are far more durable.

These knee highs are great

These knee highs are great to wear under pants when pantyhose is too hot to wear. Ther have a nice comfortable band on top that prevents them from sliding down. They have reinforced heels and toes to prevent runs. They also have a great taupe color.

This is the first time

This is the first time I ordered these sheer compression knee highs, and I am delighted. The fit is great and they effectively relieve the moderate swelling I've been experiencing. They are really comfortable, and I am glad I can get them in different colors (I chose black and navy).

I like these compressions because

I like these compressions because the material is thin and just perfect for summer days; it is also breathable, so they don’t make my skin itchy; like their open toes because I can wear them with flip flops; they are easy to wear and good for circulation and swelling reduction.

I have wide feet and

I have wide feet and have had 4 foot surgeries, so I'm always looking for ways to keep my feet happier. I've worn compression socks and pantyhose for air travel, and sometimes for work, for about a decade. The 15-20 mmHg works really well for me, as it provides enough support without being too suffocating. I found the sizing chart to be accurate. I measured before ordering and these fit as expected.

They are ok, not great.

They are ok, not great. Similar to thick pantyhose material. It can get snagged and will run if you're not careful. They seem to be a bit shorter than other compression socks I've tried. They really just seem like pricy knee high pantyhose with the toes cut out, but they do compress the calves nicely. Just wish they were a bit longer, they don't go all the way up to my knee.

Initial Thoughts: Nice feel to

Initial Thoughts: Nice feel to the fabric!

The Good: Wow! These go on VERY easy but are not too loose! Very impressed with ease of use of these!

The Bad: Nothing that I've found!

The Very Ugly: Nothing that I've found!

The Excellent: They stay up better than many other brands! They are as comfortable as lesser mg compression - yet work as they should!

Overall Thoughts/Summary: I like these far better than many more expensive name brands! I will almost certainly purchase again!

Plus Size Sheer Compression Socks

Plus Size Sheer Compression Socks for Women 15-20mmHg (3 Pairs) are a snug fit. I really like these compression socks. They have held up nicely to washings. They also give me much needed support where others have failed.

The Small is really small.

The Small is really small. I am petite and have to specially order boots to fit my 11" calf circumference, and these were a tight compression. The heel portion fit my size 6 foot perfectly, too. The length was long for me, though, coming up to the knee higher than the product image. So if you're thin and average height, this should fit you well.

I used these on a

I used these on a recent trip. We travelled by train for the first leg of the journey and by plane on the way home. These were comfortable and supportive on both methods of travel. Think that I would rather go with the full footed compression socks because the part that went over the top of my foot became rather uncomfortable as the day progressed. I originally wanted these because my feet get really hot. I think I would rather swap the comfort for the added heat. If you have to wear toeless shoes or something, these would be perfect.
